Android HTC Smartphones – HTC Vivid

Wearing a high gloss, black plastic body, the HTC Vivid looks more like a Samsung device which isn’t a bad thing. We are dealing with a pretty large phone since it measures a respectable 5 x 2.6 x 0.4 inches and tips the scales at 6.2 ounces. The thin plate of the battery cover is made from metal and makes the phone feel ungainly in the hand. In order to access the microSD card slot, you’ll have to remove the battery.

The HTC Vivid comes with a massive 4.5-inch Super LCD display that has a qHD resolution (540 x 960 pixels) and can display up to 262,000 colors. This display seems to be quite sharp and clear, while the colors look great on it. The phone is running on the 2.3 Gingerbread version of the Android operating system and on top of that is HTC’s own Sense 3.0 user interface.

Located above the display is a 1.3 megapixel camera for video chats and taking self portraits, along with an indicator light. Below the screen you’ll find the traditional four touch sensitive buttons, while on the right spine sits a tall and thin volume rocker. Located on the left side is the microUSB charging port, while on top is the power button and a 3.5mm headset jack. At the back you’ll notice the eight megapixel camera and the dual LED flash.

We are dealing with a proper Android smartphone so it’s no wonder that the HTC Vivid comes with a bundle of features like Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, Wi-Fi, along with text and multimedia messaging support. You also get YouTube, Gmail, turn-by-turn navigation, Maps, social networking syncing and contact importing. HTC also throws in a bunch of applications like Friendstream, Dock Mode, HTC Hub, Footprints and Watch for entertainment, while AT&T brings AT&T Family Map, AT&T Code Scanner, AT&T Navigator, along with Movies, Live TV and visual voice mail. Let’s not forget about MOG Music, FM Radio, Amazon Kindle, Polaris Office, Qik Lite, Yellow Pages Mobile and a demo version of NFS Shift.

The aforementioned eight megapixel camera has f2.2 lens for improving the low-light performance. Images taken both inside and outside seem to be quite crisp and with good color fidelity. In addition, that 1.3 mpx camera we mentioned is capable of taking smooth photos that have the correct color.

The HTC Vivid packs a dual core 1.20 GHz processor from Qualcomm which seems to do a great job as there aren’t any significant signs of lag. The battery of this model has a rated talk time of 4.6 hours while in standby it should provide enough juice for up to 12.2 days thanks to its massive 1,620 mAh lithium-ion battery.
