<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/uploads/droid-dna-htc.jpg

In this constantly interconnected world, you might feel a bit left out if you do not have a gadget that allows you to send and receive e-mail messages, update your status on social networking sites, read the news from online sources and perform a host of other tasks electronically. Thanks to the efficiency and the multitude of features offered by smartphones, you can do all these and more.

Smartphones as All-in-One Gadgets

Before the slew of smartphones from Apple, Google, Nokia, RIM, Samsung and HP flooded the market, a person had to carry several electronic gadgets when travelling or when going out of the office. Aside from a mobile phone, you may also need a separate MP3 player, an e-book reader, a mobile phone, a digital camera, a video camera, a portable media player, a GPS device, an electronic organizer and maybe a small laptop computer. But when you have a smartphone which has all these functionalities, you only need to carry one gadget with you.

Your dilemma now lies in deciding which among the dozens of smartphones available it is that will best suit your on-the-go lifestyle. A great way to start is by checking on the operating system which the smartphone has. You can take your pick from gadgets which have any of the following OS: Blackberry, Symbian, Android, iOS, Windows for mobile or Palm OS. The other things that you need to take into consideration are its features, applications, battery life and the form factor of the phone.

The Top 5 Smartphones from Verizon Wireless

Now, if you are looking for a smartphone which will give you all the features that you need, the best way to start your search is by checking on the models available through your preferred mobile phone carrier company. In the United States, Verizon Wireless is the most popular carries which has more than 100 million subscribers as of 2011. These subscribers use their CDMA, 3G and LTE 4G networks. LTE is the latest technology used by mobile phone subscribers so that they can get high-speed Internet connection not just on their smartphones, but also on their tablet and mobile computers.

To get you started on your search for the best smartphone models from Verizon Wireless, we have put together a top 5 list of the models that you can consider getting:

Droid DNA by HTC

A sleek, beautifully-designed phone with a quad core processor is the Droid DNA mobile phone by HTC. The 5-inch screen provides an excellent, clear display while the operating software is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with 4G LTE. Add to these the fact that Droid has a good quality camera and a long battery life, it is one of the best deals that subscribers can take advantage of from Verizon Wireless.Droid Razr.

Droid DNA by HTC Image Credit:droid-life.com

Maxx HD by Motorola

If you’re looking for a sleek phone with an extra long battery life, you should definitely consider getting the Droid Razr Maxx HD phone from Motorola. Those who are always on the go will find the quality of calls made and received by the phone to be excellent. For browsing, 4G data speeds are available and there is plenty of storage for your multitude of files.

Perhaps the only disadvantage of buying this smartphone is the fact that it does not necessarily produce sharp images. It does have an 8-megapixel main camera with a LED flash, but the images produced are subpar as compared to other phones. Other than that, Motorola loyalists will have a blast using the ultra long life battery of this phone so no matter how many hours you are on the road, you’ll not run out of juice.

MaxxHD-Motorola

Galaxy Nexus from Samsung

A fan favorite for most Verizon Wireless subscribers, the Galaxy Nexus phone from Samsung was the first device to run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. What makes it stand out is that it costs a bit less than the Galaxy S3 which is also from Samsung, but it is not inferior when it comes to the specs. The Nexus has a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display which has a contoured shape. It also has a 5-megapixel camera which is actually less in resolution than the Droid Razr, but it produces better quality images.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Image Credit:TAKA@P.P.R.S

Galaxy S3 from Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone definitely gives the iPhone a run for its money. The gadget comes fully loaded with 4G LTE capability, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a dual core processor and a dazzling 8-megapixel camera. The handset has an excellent size and form factor which fits perfectly in one’s hands. When Siri was first launched by Apple, Samsung tried to have a counterpart with their units in the form of S Voice, but its quality is a bit disappointing. All in all, the Galaxy S3 from Samsung has excellent hardware and software features which most Verizon Wireless subscribers will be more than happy with.

Samsung Galaxy s3 Beautiful View

iPhone 5 from Apple

If you’re a first time smartphone user, you may want to go for the iPhone 4S but for existing Verizon Wireless subscribers who would like to upgrade, the iPhone 5 is definitely an excellent buy. Whether you’re an Apple fan or not, you can’t help but be impressed with its screen which is larger than the 4S. It runs on a speedier A6 processor, there’s turn-by-turn navigation and its design is as sleek, clean and beautiful as any Apple gadget could be. When you’re talking about top-of-the-line, the iPhone 5 from Apple might as well be on top of any best smartphones’ list that you can come up with.

iPohone5 Display

It offers panoramic views, sharp images and great pictures like never before. To get the best out of the many exciting features available in your iPhone5 camera a few tips will help you.

Starting your camera

The best thing about the iPhone5 camera is the instant start, you can just swipe on the camera icon which always there on the lock screen, and open your camera app.

iPhone 5 Camera Location

Shooting to get the best results

Focus

Need to focus, just tap on the screen on the area you want to focus and your camera will focus on it automatically. It also has automatic adjustment for exposure and white balance. When you have the image you feel is perfect just tap the camera icon at the bottom center and capture your picture.

Zoom

For zooming just pinch and drag to zoom 5x in and out of a picture or you use the zoom slider with a plus and minus indications.

Panorama mode

You have a really beautiful vista in front of you and you want to capture its panoramic grandeur. Simply go the Camera apps and select the new feature, Panorama mode. Tap and slowly pan the camera up to 240 degrees get a seamless panoramic picture. Press “done” when you have finished. Need to change directions from left to right or right to left, you can also tap the arrow mark on your screen. The powerful A6 chip, gyroscope and the camera app in your iPhone work together and along with a 28 mega pixel resolution give you magnificent panoramic shots.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography is an exciting feature that allows you to take multiple exposures of the same view and combine them to get a more detailed and better image.

Panoramic photo taken with iPhone 5

Camera Flash

iPhone5 camera gives detailed images even in low light conditions. Enhance the quality of these low light pictures by using flash. The flash icon with a lightning symbol will appear on the top left of the screen. Tap the icon and three flash options will appear Off, Auto and On. Off option is the default setting in your camera. Selecting auto means your iPhone will decide when you need flash and accordingly operate. Selecting the On option means flash will be on for every picture you take.

Photos of your iPhone screen

To capture a photo of whatever is presently on your phone’s screen press and hold the power button and then press the home button. A flash indicates you have successfully taken a screenshot.

How to deal with the purple flare problem

The otherwise excellent iPhone camera has a purple flare problem. It is suggested by Apple that users should readjust their cameras or use their hands as a hood to block off the disturbing light. Another more practical, effective and affordable alternative is to buy a Fotodiox camHoodie, a case with a rubber hood for your camera that will minimize the purple flare.

Video recording with your iPhone5 camera

Your iPhone5 camera records video up to 1080p HD. Go to the bottom right corner of your screen which will have two icons, one is a camera icon and the other is a square with a triangle jutting out of it, representing a movie camera. To change to video mode move the slider so that the button is under the movie camera icon. Tap the button with the red circle in it to start recording, it will blink and a timer will also appear onscreen as you record. To finish recording tap the button again. The large aperture and rear side illumination sensor allows more light to give you brighter videos. iPHone5 camera’s improved image stabilization, noise reduction features etc, help you get the perfect video under any conditions. Another feature lets you shoot still images as you video record.

Facetime and switching between cameras

Use your iPhone5 front camera for video chatting and the great thing is you can switch between the front and rear cameras, so that the other person can see you and also see what you are seeing.

The iPhone 5 camera is a great camera; follow these tips for wonderful pictures and videos anytime and anywhere.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/uploads/samsung-Galaxy-s3-beautifullview.jpg

The top selling Samsung Galaxy S III smart phone marketing line is ‘Designed for humans’. Samsung has definitely invested a lot of research and applied thought to come up with a smart phone that is so much easier to use than other phones in this segment. And by its very nature of being a smart phone, it comes with many interesting features. One of them is the screenshot feature. You do not need a Root access and or a paid third party app to take screenshots with your Samsung Galaxy S III. The S III’s Android 4 ICS (Ice cream Sandwich) gives you a free and inbuilt screenshot feature in your phone.

Samsung Galaxy s3 Beautiful View

The screen shot feature is not new to smart phones, but the simple and easy way of doing it is what makes Samsung Galaxy S III different. All you have to do is swipe and send the image to your friends, colleagues etc. This is an exciting feature and easy to use.

Why a screen shot feature

You have something interesting on your screen, a picture, a funny message, or you have a high game score etc., and you would like to share it with others. Screenshot is the most authentic and fastest way. It is a great way to share and communicate.

Simple Steps for that great Screenshot

Samsung has equipped its Galaxy S III with a number of new ‘motion’ technologies.

The screenshot feature combined with S III’s popular S Voice and eye tracking feature (keeps your screen alive as long as you are looking at it) and the palm swipe screenshot feature makes it so easy to use giving you detailed and sharp screenshot images.

Samsung Galaxy S III

Enabling the Palm Swipe Mode

The swipe mode may already be enabled in your Samsung Galaxy S III, if not you can activate the swipe mode. Go to the Notifications tray touch the Settings icon or alternately go to the Settings app on the home screen.

Scroll down to the Motion tab and tap. A check mark should appear in the top of the Motion activation box. Scroll down to Hand Motions settings, tap and ensure there is a check mark in the Palm swipe to capture box. Voila, your Palm swipe screenshot mode is now enabled.

How to take a Screenshot using Palm swipe

Open the page or app that you want to take a screen shot. Hold your phone in the vertical position with the selected page or app. Move your palm on the screen from right to left or left to right it does not matter. A white line will go across the display indicating that the screen shot has been taken Whatever is currently on your screen has been captured.

To view the captured screenshots, go to the Gallery app.

Alternate method for taking a screenshot

The alternate method is the old Android system of tapping and holding both the Power and Home buttons at the same time till the screen flashes and captures your screenshot. You can view your screenshots by going to the Gallery app.

Sending and sharing your screenshots

Now that you have had fun shooting your screenshots, take the enjoyment further by sharing it. Go to the Gallery Apps, open Screenshots album. Select and share through email or post them to Facebook, Twitter etc., or message them, or upload them to Dropbox etc.

Go ahead and have fun with your Samsung Galaxy S III great screenshot feature, it is so simple to use.

Actually to understand this phone you have to live with it. Some people dislike this super phone just because of its size which is a mistake in fact as this phone has a lot of striking features which will make you surprised.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Enough Size
While discovering from all the facets we were been wondering about the size of the phone but honestly speaking the size if not an issue. It can be adjusted in your jeans pocket and it is comparatively very light weight. Looking at first sight it is seemed that this phone cannot be operated by one hand but in fact it is.

The Magical Stylus
The stylus (pen) of the note is very interesting. Honestly we experienced mixed feelings about the pen. The pen can be used for handwriting recognition with great accuracy which is the most valuable feature. The pen can be used to put signature in the email or even you can use it to draw any shape also. You can also use it for hand-written notes on Power Point Presentation and to crop images etc.

Though the pen is offering this much flexibilities, we have noticed some bugs on the pen. The pen is not good for detecting spaces and uppercase letters.

Galaxy Note 2 S-Pen

Camera and Multimedia
The phone has 8 Mega Pixel primary camera as well as 1.9 Mega Pixel front camera for video calling. But the camera result is somewhat weak in reduced light but is far better at the outside.

There is a nice feature of burst shooting mode that takes number of shots in quick time which allows selecting the best of them later on. There is also a very good HD video support.

Galaxy Note2 inside View

Motion and gesture control
The phone is very good at motion and gesture sensing. The phone can be turned to silence mode when it is ringing. Moreover you can call a contact by just lifting the phone to ear if the contact is on-screen. Do not worry because it will give a little buzz of vibration to tell you that it is calling.

The most surprising and helpful feature is that the screen is so intelligent that it notifies you about missed calls, new messages and battery level by illuminating the light. But you can know that it will reduce the battery life of your phone. All of these features are configurable.

Powerful and Fast
The phone is bundled with 1.6 GHz Quad Core processor with 2GB of RAM which is enough for a tablet. It also supports LTE and 4G data speeds.
The download speed offered is 100mbps and upload speed is 50mbps which indicates that your phone can download faster than your broadband connected PC.

Entertainment Planet
The best entertaining thing about the phone is its 5 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen with 16 M colors. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 2 and supports multi touch functionality.
It supports almost all the video formats including MKV files. With the stock video player you can watch the video in a separate pop-up window.

Android Jelly Bean Operating System
The Jelly Bean is the Google’s latest Android Version. Jelly Bean keeps you updated on weather, traffic and public transport which is quite brilliant. The voice recognition is also improved. The Samsung has also included blocking mode like Apple’s Do Not Disturb function in which you can block calls, text messages etc for set times.

Calls and Messages
The phone is very good at voice quality for calling but as the size of the phone is bigger you have to place it properly near your ear.
The messaging feature is wonderful. The messages can be hand-written as well as typed. As the size is massive the keys are larger and with enough gaps among them. So the text can be typed easily and accurately.

Battery
As the phone is big in size and features, it will obviously need a big battery. The battery is standard 3100mAh Li-Ion cell which is big enough.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/uploads/nexus.jpg

The screens on our smartphones are getting better with every new batch of devices. They’ve actually evolved an enormous amount over the last two years, as we’ve seen the best smartphones go from WVGA screens to now HD screens. Here are 4 of the nicest cell phone displays on the market today, whether on a contract or prepaid phone

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Samsung Galaxy nexus (Source: gsmarena.com)

The Galaxy Nexus is probably the gold standard for smartphone displays right now. It’s a large display, with more than 4.5″ of screen real estate. The Super AMOLED technology also makes the colors pop off the screen. What makes the Galaxy Nexus’ s display truly great, though, is the resolution. At 720p, it’s one of the first HD smartphones to hit the market. To get a look at how great the screen is, check out this review of the display

Apple iPhone 4/4S

Apple iPhone 4/4S (Source: cnet.com.au)

In the discussion of the best cell phone displays, the iPhone 4 and 4S will be in the conversation for the foreseeable future. The resolution is 960×640, but what’s truly incredible is the pixel density. Apple calls this screen the Retina Display because it’s impossible for the human eye to distinguish the individual pixels on the display.

HTC Rezound

HTC Rezound (Source: gforgames.com)

The HTC Rezound is another incredible display. It packs the same 720p resolution as the Galaxy Nexus, but comes with a slightly smaller 4.3″ screen. This makes items on the screen appear a little more crisp, although the reduced real estate is considered a negative by some. The Rezound also uses a Super LCD display. The colors are a little less vibrant than they are with a Super AMOLED display, but they are more realistic in terms of how even the contrast is.

Motorola Droid RAZR

Motorola Droid RAZR (Source: wifi-walker.com)

On paper, the RAZR’s screen doesn’t compete with the others listed here. It’s not an HD screen and certainly isn’t the Retina Display. It’s a qHD Super AMOLED screen. What makes the RAZR’s screen worth mentioning, though, is how durable it is. It’s made from Gorilla Glass, and with the comparable specs, it definitely deserves mention when discussing great smartphone screens.

Smartphone displays are evolving so quickly that we’ll likely see 1080p displays in the next several months. That’s just the nature of the industry. However, all of the displays listed here will still look beautiful for years to come, as they’re simply that far ahead of their time.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/124978-android-smartphones-zte-warp-2.jpg

What we have here is the ZTE Warp, a solid Android Gingerbread-running smartphone that comes at the affordable price of $199 on Boost Mobile’s prepaid, no-contract service. The handset measures 5 x 2.7 x 0.5 inches and weighs 5.3 ounces which means that it is fairly compact. It isn’t one of the prettiest phones available right now but we do like the back of it because it has a nice rippled texture that not only resists to fingerprints but it also makes the phone easier to grip.

The front of the handset is dominated by the generous 4.3-inch display that has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. It manages to deliver a good amount of light, but it’s no Super AMOLED or Super LCD. The colors seem to be vivid enough but we don’t like that the screen is not as responsive as we’re used to. You can write messages either with the XT9 virtual keyboard or with the regular Android one, both of them sharing a lot of similarities.

ZTE Warp (Source: productwiki.com)

Located above the screen is a silver earpiece speaker along with a notification light, something that you don’t see that often anymore. Below the display are the capacitive buttons for home, menu, back and search functions. On the right spine of the Warp you have access to the dedicated camera shutter and the microUSB port, while on top sits the small power key and a 3.5 mm jack. Looking on the left side of the phone we find nothing but a volume rocker. At the back is the 5 megapixel camera that has an LED flash, along with the main speaker. The microSD card slot is accessible without having to remove the battery.

ZTE Warp (Source: cdn.androidcentral.com)

The ZTE Warp is running on a pretty much stock version of Google’s operating system which would have to be Android 2.3.5. You get to use up to five home screens that can be filled with shortcuts and widgets, while on the official Android Market you’ll find more than 250,000 apps to try. As you would expect, the phone comes bundled with GPS, Gmail, messaging and e-mail support, along with a My Files app, stop watch, voice recorder, stopwatch, BoostZone app and the Mobile ID feature with which you can download themes and other similar stuff.

The ZTE Warp is fitted with a 1,650 mAh lithium-ion battery that has a rated standby time of up to nine days and nine hours, while the rated usage time is of five days. The phone is powered by a single core Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.0 GHz with 512MB of RAM. You shouldn’t experience any sort of lag while navigating through the menus and opening various types of applications.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/124964-android-htc-smartphones-htc-vivid-2.jpg

Wearing a high gloss, black plastic body, the HTC Vivid looks more like a Samsung device which isn’t a bad thing. We are dealing with a pretty large phone since it measures a respectable 5 x 2.6 x 0.4 inches and tips the scales at 6.2 ounces. The thin plate of the battery cover is made from metal and makes the phone feel ungainly in the hand. In order to access the microSD card slot, you’ll have to remove the battery.

The HTC Vivid comes with a massive 4.5-inch Super LCD display that has a qHD resolution (540 x 960 pixels) and can display up to 262,000 colors. This display seems to be quite sharp and clear, while the colors look great on it. The phone is running on the 2.3 Gingerbread version of the Android operating system and on top of that is HTC’s own Sense 3.0 user interface.

HTC Vivid (Source: manualusersguide.com)

Located above the display is a 1.3 megapixel camera for video chats and taking self portraits, along with an indicator light. Below the screen you’ll find the traditional four touch sensitive buttons, while on the right spine sits a tall and thin volume rocker. Located on the left side is the microUSB charging port, while on top is the power button and a 3.5mm headset jack. At the back you’ll notice the eight megapixel camera and the dual LED flash.

We are dealing with a proper Android smartphone so it’s no wonder that the HTC Vivid comes with a bundle of features like Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, Wi-Fi, along with text and multimedia messaging support. You also get YouTube, Gmail, turn-by-turn navigation, Maps, social networking syncing and contact importing. HTC also throws in a bunch of applications like Friendstream, Dock Mode, HTC Hub, Footprints and Watch for entertainment, while AT&T brings AT&T Family Map, AT&T Code Scanner, AT&T Navigator, along with Movies, Live TV and visual voice mail. Let’s not forget about MOG Music, FM Radio, Amazon Kindle, Polaris Office, Qik Lite, Yellow Pages Mobile and a demo version of NFS Shift.

HTC Vivid (Source: mobilespesification.com)

The aforementioned eight megapixel camera has f2.2 lens for improving the low-light performance. Images taken both inside and outside seem to be quite crisp and with good color fidelity. In addition, that 1.3 mpx camera we mentioned is capable of taking smooth photos that have the correct color.

The HTC Vivid packs a dual core 1.20 GHz processor from Qualcomm which seems to do a great job as there aren’t any significant signs of lag. The battery of this model has a rated talk time of 4.6 hours while in standby it should provide enough juice for up to 12.2 days thanks to its massive 1,620 mAh lithium-ion battery.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/124821-t-mobile-smartphone-lg-doubleplay-2.jpg

Back in 2011 T-Mobile introduced the LG Doubleplay in its lineup of smartphones which is an interesting handset thanks to its dual screen setup. The handset measures 4.8 x 2.5 x 0.63 inches so we’re dealing with a pretty big and heavy device which weights an impressive 6.7 ounces. We like that it has rounded corners and gentle curves, while the smooth matte finish located along the bezel gives the smartphone a more sophisticated look.

LG Doubleplay (Source: blogcdn.com)

The front of the Doubleplay is occupied by a 3.5-inch TFT display that has a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels (HVGA) which manages to be colorful and crisp. The capacitive touchscreen seems to be quite responsive most of the times thanks to the use of a powerful Qualcomm Scorpion processor running at 1.0 GHz. Beneath this screen you’ll notice the usual Android keys for Menu, Home, Back and Search.

Sliding the handset will come with a surprise because instead of a traditional QWERTY keyboard, you get a split in half keyboard which makes room for a 2-inch QVGA subdisplay located right in the middle. On this small display you can accommodate up to eight customizable shortcuts. What’s the point of having two displays? Well, it gives you the possibility to multitask and perform two different functions at the same time. You also are able to “send” applications between these two displays.

Sitting on the left spine of the LG Doubleplay is a microUSB port, while on the right side is the volume rocker. On top of the smartphone are the power/screen lock button and the 3.5mm headphone jack. The camera lens is set inside the brushed metal strip located on the back and it comes with an LED flash for taking photos in a dark environment.

LG Doubleplay (Source: droiddog.com)

The smartphone is running on Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread and packs the Swype keyboard along with the default one that Android provides. It comes with the usual Google services like Talk, Gmail, Search with Voice, Latitude, Places, Maps with Navigation and YouTube. Also on board of the LG Doubleplay you’ll find a voice dialer, calculator, calendar and a bunch of preinstalled applications like Blio e-reader, 411 & More, DriveSmart, Bejeweled 2, Cloud Text, GroupText, Lookout, T-Mobile Name ID, Slacker radio, SimCity Deluxe, Richnote, Polaris Office, Facebook, Zinio and Twitter.

Let’s not forget about the connectivity features such as Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11n Wi-Fi and GPS. The five megapixel camera takes some pretty good photos and it comes with a bunch of editing tools. It can also record 720p HD videos which have a decent quality, but seem shaky some of the times.

The battery should last you about 11 days in standby or up to three hours of talk time.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/124819-t-mobile-smartphones-2.jpg

T-Mobile’s smartphone lineup gained a new member last year with the introduction of the Samsung Dart T499. This is an entry-level Android-running smartphone that is clad in gray lightweight plastic and has a compact size, measuring 4.09 x 2.39 x 0.48 inches and has a curb weight of 3.8 ounces. Its back cover adopts a matte textured surface that makes the device be more pleasing to grasp.

It has been fitted with a 3.14-inch display that has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels (QVGA). By smartphone standards, this is quite a small screen which means that you will be doing a lot of scrolling in large web pages. The good news is that it offers support for up to 16.7 million colors so it can offer some vibrant graphics. The user can fiddle with the brightness level, backlight timer and the window animations.

Samsung Dart T499 (Source: techgadgets.in)

Under the screen are the four usual Android keys for menu, home, back and search – all of which are touch sensitive. Located on the phone’s left spine is the volume rocker, while on the right side sit the power button and the microSD card slot. On top of the Samsung Dart T499 sit the microUSB port and the 3.5mm headset jack.

The smartphone is running on Android 2.2 and on top of that is Samsung’s popular TouchWiz user interface which compared to other manufacturer skins is not that intrusive. The phone comes with the usual array of Android goodies, including here Gmail, Maps, Latitude, Google Talk, Google voice search and YouTube. We are glad to report that the handset doesn’t have a lot of bloatware installed as you get only good stuff like Google Music, Android web browser and a voice recorder, along withThinkfree Office for creating, viewing and editing Office documents. Needless to say, you can always download more apps from the Android Market.

Samsung Dart T499 (Source: mobilewitch.com)

Let’s not forget that this still is a phone so it comes with features like a speakerphone, vibrate mode, along with text and multimedia messaging. Also on board are GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi with support for tethering and the possibility to work as a mobile Wi-Fi hot spot for up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices.

The three megapixel camera at the back takes some decent and sharp photos that are bright enough. However, grabbing a shot in a low light environment will result in photos that have a grainier texture. The camera can also record videos up to a maximum resolution of 320 x 240 pixels (QVGA).

The Samsung Dart T499 is powered by a modest 600 MHz processor and has a rated batter life of up to 8 hours of talk time or up to 13.8 days in standby mode.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/124459-verizon-4g-smartphone-2.jpg

A 2011 entry in Verizon’s 4G smartphone lineup is the Samsung Droid Charge which adopts a slab design and has a slight point at the bottom while on the back there is a bit of a hump. That sloped back grants a good place for you to rest your palm but this doesn’t mean that the smartphone is comfortable to hold. Why? Because it measures 5.11 x 2.66 x 0.46 inches and weighs a hefty 5.04 ounces. It has an all plastic construction which does not offer a premium feel as opposed to some of its rivals, like the HTC ThunderBolt, for example.

Samsung Droid Charge (Source: newgadgetz.com)

The best feature of the phone in our humble opinion would have to be the gorgeous 4.3-inch Super AMOLE Plus display that has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Compared to the previous Super AMOLED displays, the Plus version has 50% more subpixels which means that it offers more clarity and it is also more visible in the outdoors. As you would expect from a Samsung smartphone, it comes with the company’s TouchWiz user interface which sits on top of the Android OS and offers seven home screens that you can customize with widgets and shortcuts.

Below this excellent screen are four physical buttons for home, menu, back and search. Sitting on the left spine of the Samsung Droid Charge is the microUSB port and the volume rocker, while on the right is the HDMI port and the power button. On top you’ll find the 3.5 mm jack while at the back there’s an eight megapixel camera that has a flash. Let’s not forget about the front-facing 1.3 mpx camera located in the upper left corner.

The smartphone comes with the usual array of voice features, including speed dial, speakerphone, conference calling, voice commands, along with text and multimedia messaging with support for threaded chat view. Also on board you’ll find Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi. This is the second 4G compatible smartphone released for Verizon and offers great speeds, just like the HTC ThunderBolt.

Samsung Droid Charge (Source: cellphones.techfresh.net)

The device is running on Android 2.2.1 and comes with the usual Google services, along with social networking integration, contact and calendar management, plus a full web browser. Some of the preloaded applications include Amazon Kindle Android, Tune Wiki, ThinkFree and a coule of Verizon’s own apps.

At the heart of this smartphone is a powerful Hummingbird processor running at 1.0 GHz which comes with 512MB of RAM. This is more than enough to provide a very smooth and fast user experience, without any signs of lag. The 1,600 mAh lithium-ion battery has a rated talk time of 11 hours while in standby it should be able to last for 12 days.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/124455-2010-at-amp-t-smartphones-2.png

2010 was a great year for smartphones and the ones launched for AT&T were just as impressive. One example would be the Motorola Flipside, a stocky phone that measures 4.3 x 2.2 x 0.6 inches and has a curb weight of 5.1 ounces. It borrows a few design cues from the Backflip model but this one is a traditional slider.

It adopts a 3.1-inch HVGA touchscreen display that has a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, being capable of delivering up to 16M colors. This is a small screen and you’ll immediately notice this when you will start using the onscreen navigation controls and icons which are small. Below this display you will find a generous trackpad that once pressed it will wake up the phone and serves as an alternative navigation tool.

2010 At&t Smartphones (Source: 3.bp.blogspot.com)

On the right spine of the Motorola Flipside you will have access to the camera shutter and a small volume rocker, while on the left sits the microUSB charging port. On top are the power button and the 3.5mm jack, while at the back you will notice the three megapixel camera which has a self-portrait mirror. Removing the battery cover will grant you access to a microSD card slot that can accommodate cards up to a capacity of 32GB.

This is a proper Android-running smartphone so you will find features like assisted GPS, Bluetooth 2.1, voice dialing, a clock, calendar, along with the usual organizer services. Some of the other preloaded apps include Where, Yellow Pages Mobile, Quickoffice, Vlingo Voice, mobile banking, MobiTV and Mobile Video apps, a task manager and e-Translate. Let’s not forget about the traditional Google services like Navigation, Maps, YouTube and the rest of the lot.

We are living in the era of social networking so it’s no wonder that the Motorola Flipside has an IM module for chatting with Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger and AIM, aside from text and multimedia messaging.

Motorola Flipside (Source: images.amazon.com)

That three megapixel camera we’ve mentioned can take photos in three different resolutions, while the editing tools are pretty much limited to a digital zoom, panoramic mode and photo tagging. On their own, the photos look rather dull but with the incorporated Kodak Perfect Touch filter these will get the right amount of color. The camcorder also has three resolutions available but the bad news is that there aren’t any customization features. Photos/videos are saved either on the 512MB internal memory or on the bundled 2GB microSD card.

The battery of the Motorola Flipside has a rated talk time of 6 hours, while if you leave it in standby it should last for approximately 15.5 days. This smartphone has a digital SAR rating of 0.5 W/kg, according to FCC’s tests.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/123708-4g-lte-smartphone-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-2.jpg

Today we focus on 4G LTE-enabled smartphones and besides talking about the LG Nitro HD, we also have a look at this Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket. This model, along with HTC’s Vivid, are the first two 4G LTE-enabled smartphones that were launched by AT&T.

The first thing that you will notice about the Skyrocket would have to be its size as it measures 5.15 x 2.75 x 0.37 inches. The main reason why the phone is so big is due to its generous 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display that has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and can show sharp images with vibrant colors. The handset tips the scales at 4.71 ounces so it is fairly lightweight given its size.

Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket (Source: androiddigit.com)

Located below the display are the four touch-sensitive buttons for home, menu, back and search. Samsung installed on the left spine of the Skyrocket the volume rocker, while on the other side sits the power/lock button. At the bottom is a microUSB port while on top sits the 3.5mm jack. Above the display in the upper left-hand corner is a two megapixel camera, while the 8 megapixel unit is at the back with an LED flash.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is running on Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) and on top of that is the TouchWiz 4.0 user interface. You get to use up to seven home screens, along with a handy notification pull-down menu for controlling Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and silent mode. The Samsung Live Panel widgets can be resized and when you scroll through the lists of widgets you’ll notice a more fluid motion in comparison to older models.

Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket (Source: cdn.slashgear.com)

This is a quad-band world phone that comes with a lot of features, including a speakerphone, video calling via Qik, voice dialing, conference calling, along with text and multimedia messaging. Also on board of the Skyrocket you’ll find support for Bluetooth 3.0, GPS and 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. It has a built-in NFC chip that allows you to use the smartphone for scanning, reading and sharing RFID tags. Pretty soon you’ll be able to use this phone for making mobile payments, once Google Wallet will be available for other handsets beyond the Nexus 4G.

Under the hood of the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon processor running at 1.53 GHz which makes the user experience very pleasant, without any signs of lag when browsing through lists or switching from one app to the other.

The battery of this model is rated to last for up to 7 hours of talk time, while in standby mode it should be capable of surviving for up to 10.4 days. It has a digital SAR rating of 0.3 W/kg.

If you are in the marking for blazing fast network speeds, have a look at the LG Nitro HD which is a 4G LTE-enabled smartphone. When you are not in an LTE area you’ll have to settle with HSPA+. Released for AT&T, this would have to be the third phone of this kind after the Samsung Skyrocket and the HTC Vivid. This model is going to set you back $249.99 with a new 2-year contract.

What you get for the money? Well, it is an all-black powerful smartphone that has a rounded rectangular shape while below the display there’s a thick black bezel. In addition, there are a bunch of silver-colored accents and a dark gray, shiny rim around the face. The battery cover has a textured black finish which provides a good grip and it is manufactured from hard plastic. The eight megapixel camera at the back manages to take excellent photos and has a bright LED flash. It is capable of doing 1080p HD recordings.

LG Nitro HD (Source: geeky-gadgets.com)

One of the strong points of this model would have to be its exceptional 4.5-inch HD AH-IPS display that has a resolution of 1,280 x 768 pixels as well as a pixel density of 329 pixels / inch. The company has stated that the display has 500 nits of luminance while being able to maintain the colors as accurate as possible.

Carrying such a large display, it’s no wonder that the LG Nitro HD is a big phone, measuring 5.27 x 2.67 x 0.41 inches and weighing 4.5 ounces. The smartphone is running on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread but it will probably be upgraded to the latest version of Google’s operating system which is 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It comes with the regular LG skin for Android-enabled devices, the one that has access to the system settings from the pull-down menu, a specific look and feel of the camera UI, along with an overview of all the seven home screens when you pinch to zoom.

LG Nitro HD (Source: techspot.com)

Below that gorgeous display you will find three touch sensitive buttons for pulling up the menu, going home and going back. Above the screen LG installed a 1.3 mpx camera which is suitable for taking self-portraits and also for video chats. On the left side sits the volume rocker, next to the 3.5 mm jack, a covered microUSB charging port and the power button.

The LG Nitro HD comes with the regular Android features like GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, along with DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct support. Other than that, it comes with the usual YouTube, Navigation, Maps, Search and the rest of Google’s services. Also on board are other apps like AT&T Code Scanner, Live TV, AT&T Navigator and SmartShare.

If you are in the market for a 4G-enabled smartphone launched by Samsung you might want to have a look at the Exhibit II. The device is running on T-Mobile’s HSPA+ “4G” network and doesn’t look at all like its predecessor. The first one adopted a rounded top and flat bottom, while the Exhibit II has a flat top and a rounded bottom, exactly the opposite.

The smartphone is made from hard plastic, featuring a shiny front, a textured dark-blue back and matte gray sides, while the ring that surrounds the camera lens is made from metal. The device measures 4.54 x 2.35 x 0.45 inches which makes it a compact and thin handset that will stay comfortably in your pocket. It weighs 4 ounces which manages to feel quite fine for its size.

Samsung Exhibit II 4G (Source: cdn.coolest-gadgets.com)

Samsung has installed a 3.7-inch TFT LCD display that has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and can reveal up to 16M colors. It appears to be a colorful and bright display, which is also quite sharp and clear. Its only downside would have to be that it stops being readable if you expose it to sunlight. Above this screen there’s a modest VGA front-facing camera which is suitable only for video chats and taking self-portraits.

The Samsung Exhibit II 4G is running on Google’s Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system and on top of that is the company’s own TouchWiz user interface. You will get to use up to seven home screens that can be filled with shortcuts and widgets, plus it also has an overview screen that displays all of the screens at once.

Below the display sit four touch sensitive buttons, while on top of the phone you will find the microUSB charging port and the 3.5mm headset jack. The volume rocker has been installed on the left spine, while the power buttons sits on the right side. At the back is a three megapixel camera that has a flash, while hiding behind the phone’s battery cover is the microSD card slot that can accept cards up to a capacity of 32GB.

Samsung Exhibit II 4G (Source: techno18.com)

This is a proper Android smartphone so it comes with the usual tech goodies like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and multimedia messaging support. Aside from these, you’ll find Google’s popular services including Gmail, Maps with turn-by-turn voice navigation, YouTube, Places and the usual music player. Sammy throws in the Kies Air and AllShare DLNA syncing applications, along with the Social Hub.

The Samsung Exhibit II 4G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor running at 1.0 GHz and has a 1,500 mAh lithium-ion battery that has a rated talk time of 5.5 hours while in standby it should last for 15 days.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/122800-windows-smartphone-samsung-focus-s-2.jpg

One of the latest Windows smartphones launched by Samsung is the Focus S which is nearly identical with the Galaxy S II, except for the different operating system and the physical camera button which the Focus S has. It is an all-black handset that comes with rounded corners while its sides are flat. Just like the bigger Skyrocket, this model features a slightly damped back cover while where the cover snaps into place it is a little bit raised.

The Samsung Focus S measures 5 x 2.6 x 0.3 inches and it tips the scales at 3.9 ounces. Most of the front face is occupied by the 4.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display that has a native resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (WVGA) and can show up to 16M colors. The device is running on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango which means that it has a single start screen that is populated with dynamic live tiles.

Samsung Focus S (Source: iphone5reviewed.com)

Above the screen sits a 1.3 megapixel camera while below it Samsung has installed three touch sensitive buttons for back, home and search. By pressing and holding the back button, you’ll be able to switch among various tasks. Doing the same with the home key will launch the voice actions. The physical buttons of this phone look a bit cheap and don’t have the same polish as the rest of the design. On the left side is the volume rocker while on the right one sits the camera shutter and the power button. Down below you’ll notice the micro USB charging port, while up top Sammy put the 3.5mm jack. At the back is the eight megapixel camera that has a bright LED flash.

Just as you would expect from a smartphone, the Samsung Focus S comes with GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and multimedia messaging. Also on board are other features like a speakerphone, conference calling, voice dialing, calculator, calendar, clock, a Bing Maps application and Internet Explorer 9 with support for HTML5. Microsoft also throws in Xbox Live integration through the Games hub.

Samsung Focus S (Source: instablogsimages.com)

The aforementioned 8 mpx camera offers a lot of settings to play with, including photo resolution, ISO, contrast, sharpness, white balance and others as well. As for the quality of the shots, these are generally good but keep in mind that the sharpness level is to medium by default. Colors appear to be vibrant, while the shutter lag is not annoying. There’s also a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera that is capable of taking decent pictures but they are a bit washed out.

The battery of the Samsung Focus S has a rated talk time of six and a half hours while in standby mode it should last for up to 10 days.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/122660-blackberry-8800-smartphone-2.jpg

The BlackBerry 8800 borrows a few design cues from the Pearl model and it comes with smoothed edges along with some chrome accents and a deep midnight blue casing. The handset measures 4.4 x 2.6 x 0.5 inches and it tips the scales at 4.7 ounces. This means that we are dealing with a pretty wide phone but this is understandable since it has a full QWERTY keyboard.

It has been fitted with a 2.5-inch display that has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and can reveal up to 65k colors. Both text and images will look quite vibrant and clear on the screen which has an ambient light sensor that can adjust the backlighting of the screen as well as the trackball and keyboard, depending on whether the user is either indoors or outdoors.

BlackBerry 8800 (Source: geek.com)

The aforementioned trackball has been borrowed from the Pearl model but they should have made it a little bit larger and preferably raised more above the surface of the phone. Surrounding it are the Talk and End keys along with the Menu and Escape buttons. The 35-button QWERTY keyboard is located below this navigation array and unfortunately it does not offer a lot of room between the keys. The good news is that the keys are large enough for a comfortable typing experience.

On the right side of the BlackBerry 8800 you will have access to the volume up and down buttons, while on the left spine RIM has installed the mini USB port, a 2.5mm headset jack and a convenience key. The microSD card slot is hiding behind the battery and we should warn you that taking off the cover is a little bit tricky.

BlackBerry 8800 (Source: clearprotector.com)

The handset offers multimedia capabilities which means that you have the possibility to use the built-in media player for listening to various audio formats, including MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA and MIDI, along with support for video files like MPEG4, H.263 and WMV. Also on board is a GPS which works great with TeleNav GPS Navigator. In addition, the smartphone comes with Bluetooth 2.0 capabilities but there is no A2DP support.

The handset comes with the famed push technology and it is able to synchronize with a BlackBerry Enterprise server, offering support for IBM Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange or Novell GroupWise. It can support up to 10 different accounts, including IMAP4 and POP3 e-mail accounts. There’s also a useful attachment viewer for opening usual file formats like the ones from Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), along with PDFs, GIFs, JPEGs, and others ones.

The battery of the BlackBerry 8800 is rated to last for up to 22 days in standby or up to 5 hours of talk time.

Released in the beginning of 2011, the Motorola Atrix is a powerful touchscreen smartphone with a sleek and lightweight design. It measures 4.6 x 2.5 x 0.4 inches and it tips the scales at just 4.8 ounces. It has an attractive slim profile which will make it slip easily in your pocket, while its tapered edges along with the rounded corners make it very comfortable to hold in your hand.

The front of the Atrix is occupied by the large 4-inch qHD display that has a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. It manages to be a vibrant and sharp display but it will get washed out when exposed to direct sunlight. The good news is that it is responsive all of the time and offers a fast user experience thanks to the impressive dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset. Below the display you’ll find the traditional Android keys for menu, home, back and search. Looking on the right spine we find a volume rocker, while on the left side sit the HDMI port and the micro USB port.

Motorola Atrix (Source: pocketnow.com)

The Motorola Atrix is running on Android 2.2 and on top of that is the company’s proprietary Motoblur user interface. You get to use seven home screens that can be personalized with various shortcuts and widgets. This Motoblur UI now features a function which is very similar to HTC’s leap screen which allows you to have a look at all of your home screens in thumbnail view.

The five megapixel camera located at the back comes with a dual LED flash, digital zoom and autofocus. It is able to record up to 1080p HD and you get various settings to fiddle with, including effects, scene modes and five picture resolutions. The quality of the pictures is decent and most of them will be sharp. The videos recorded are also of good quality, lacking any weird hues and cloudiness.

Motorola Atrix (Source: 4.bp.blogspot.com)

Let’s talk software and mention that the one sold by AT&T comes with a bunch of preloaded applications, like Quickoffice, AT&T Navigator, AT&T U-Verse Live TV, AT&T Family Map, Vlingo’s voice recognition program, a Blockbuster Video mobile application and others as well which we’ll let you discover. Of course, you can always download more by heading to the official Android Market.

The Motorola Atrix has been equipped with a generous 1,930 mAh lithium-ion battery that has a rated standby time of 10.4 days while the rated talk time is up to 9 hours. The audio quality during a phone call is very good at both ends of the line, offering good volume. The speakerphone quality is on par to regular voice calls, managing to be quite clear without any issues to worry about.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/122420-samsung-captivate-android-smartphone-2.jpeg

When it came out in 2010 for AT&T, the Samsung Captivate was the most powerful smartphone launched for this mobile carrier. It adopts a slate design which honestly is not very exciting or interesting. We are dealing with quite a big Android-running device since it measures a respectable 4.18 x 2.5 x 0.39 inches and tips the scales at 4.5 ounces.

The highlight of this handset is certainly its exquisite 4-inch Super AMOLED display that has a WVGA resolution (480 x 800 pixels) and can reveal up to 16M colors. Without any doubt, it is one of the best screens ever fitted to a mobile phone as it is fully capable of showing rich colors and a very high sharpness level. In addition, the wide viewing angles are excellent while the responsiveness of the screen is borderline perfect.

Samsung Captivate (Source: androidguys.com)

Located below this display are the usual four touch sensitive Android keys: menu, home, back and search. Looking at the left spine of the Samsung Captivate we find a micro USB port, the 3.5 mm headphone jack while on the right side is the power/lock button and the volume rocker.

The smartphone is running on Android 2.1 and on top of that is Sammy’s Touch Wiz interface (version 3.0). You are able to personalize the home screens with live wallpapers, but you won’t be able to modify the toolbar along the bottom or the pull-down notification tray located on top. A novelty for the 2.1 version is the introduction of the Feeds & Updates widget that streams updates from Twitter, Facebook and MySpace.

We are dealing with a quad-band world phone that offers a lot of features, including conference calling, a speakerphone, text & multimedia messaging, voice dialing, along with the usual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and 3G.

Samsung Captivate (Source: androidjet.com)

The five megapixel camera located at the back is able to record high definition videos and you can adjust the white balance of the clips and also add effects. For still photos you get more editing options, like antishake, ISO, smile and blink detection. Without using the flash, the indoor photos are quite dull, even if you switch to Night or Party/Indoor scene mode. The good news is that the quality of the HD videos is very good. You’ll be able to store your photos and videos on the 16 GB internal memory or on the microSD card.

The Samsung Captivate is powered by a 1.0 GHz Hummingbird Cortex A8 processor which offers a smooth user experience. The 1,500 mAh lithium-ion battery should provide enough juice for a standby time of up to 12.5 days while the rated talk time is of 5 hours and 50 minutes. The digital SAR rating stands at 0.42 W/kg.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/120075-lg-apex-2.jpg

The LG Apex is an affordable QWERTY slider that came out last year and it has a rather compact size if we compare it with the Samsung Epic 4G and the T-Mobile G2. It measures 4.57 x 2.22 x 0.62 inches and it tips the scales at 5.39 ounces. It isn’t as wide as the other two so it feels considerably more comfortable when you hold it in your hand. It benefits from a solid construction and has a soft touch finish on the back.

A more trim design has its drawbacks because the Apex sports only a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen while the other two devices have 3.7-inch (G2) and 4.0-inch (Epic 4G) displays. The one that LG fitted to the Apex has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and supports up to 242k colors. It manages to be quite crisp and bright, and the smaller size shouldn’t be a major drawback. It also comes with an accelerometer and pinch-to-zoom support.

LG Apex (Source: st2.gsmarena.com)

Below this screen you’ll notice the touch sensitive keys for menu, home, back and return, along with physical talk and end/power keys. Located on the left side is the volume rocker along with a microUSB port, while on the right side sit the camera shutter and the microSD card slot. LG installed the 3.5mm headphone jack on top of the phone, while on the back there’s a camera and a flash.

The LG Apex is running on Android 2.1 and comes with the usual Google services like Gmail, Google Maps, Google Latitude, Google Talk and YouTube. Other than that, it comes bundled with the useful ThinkFree Office Suite, Your Navigator, My Contacts Backup and Tone Room Deluxe.

As a phone, we should mention that it offers speed dialing, speakerphone, conference calling, voice commands, along with text and multimedia messaging. More advanced features are also on board, like GPS, 3G, Bluetooth and 802.11n Wi-Fi. It offers support for a wide variety of e-mail accounts and social networks, like POP3, Gmail, IMAP, Microsoft Exchange, MySpace, Twitter and Facebook.

LG Apex (Source: mphones.org)

The three megapixel autofocus camera comes with a wide array of settings, like ISO, scene modes, color effects, white balance, along with a self timer. It can also record videos up to a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The quality of the photos is OK but we wished that these could have been a little bit brighter.

The LG Apex is powered by a 600 MHz processor which isn’t enough to guarantee a smooth user experience, but for such an affordable device this is somewhat understandable. As for the 1,500 mAh battery, it has a rated talk time of 7.5 hours while in standby it should last for 14 days.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/119904-lg-optimus-u-2.jpg

Another member of LG’s Optimus lineup is the U which looks a lot like the S model. Both handsets measure 4.47 x 2.32 x 0.52 inches and come with a soft touch finish that makes them more comfortable when holding in the hand. Also the same is the 3.2-inch LCD that has a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels and can show up to 16.7M colors.

However, there are a bunch of differences that set these two models apart. While the Optimus S has the Home button first and after that the pop-menu, the Optimus U features the menu key first, followed by the Home key. Another difference is the home screen because the Optimus S comes with the Sprint ID profile pack system, whereas the U features a fairly stock Android UI.

LG Optimus U (Source: androidguys.com)

The LG Optimus U is running Android 2.2 but it is upgradable to 2.3 Gingerbread. It features app sharing, voice dialing over Bluetooth, along with integration with Twitter and Facebook accounts. Even though we are dealing with an entry-level smartphone, this model features Wi-Fi hot-spot capabilities for up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices, along with 3G EV-DO Rev. A, GPS and Bluetooth.

As far as the apps are concerned, it comes with Google Maps, Latitude, Navigator Deluxe, a Google search bar, Gmail Google Talk, Google Voice search, YouTube and Google Calendar. U.S. Celluar and LG also offer Twitter, Facebook, City ID, MyContacts Backup and Tone Room Deluxe. You will also find the useful ThinkFree Office productivity suite that allows you to create & edit Office documents.

The LG Optimus U has been equipped with a 3.2 mpx camera that takes decent photos, even though it doesn’t have an LED flash. The images seem to be in focus and quite sharp, but the colors could have been a little bit brighter. You can choose from one of the five available resolutions, along with an adjustable ISO, color effects, white balance, six scene modes, brightness, timer, 2x digital zoom and four focus modes. You can also record videos with the camera in VGA, QVGA or QCIF format.

LG Optimus U (Source: cdn.androidcentral.com)

The smartphone is powered by a 600MHz processor that even though is not impressive at all compared to more expensive high-end devices, it does its job very well as you won’t notice any lag while scrolling or navigating through the phone. The call quality seems to be very good on this device as the voices sound natural and there are no interferences at all during a conversation.

As for the battery, this has a rated talk time of up to 11 hours or 18.75 days in standby. The FCC says that the LG Optimus U has a digital SAR rating of 1.04 W/kg.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/119457-blackberry-curve-9360-2.png

The BlackBerry Curve 9360 was released a few months ago by RIM and it replaced the Curve 3G 9300 model. Both phones are similar in size and shape, featuring a compact design and curved corners. The new model adopts a more streamlined look and it is a little bit sleeker than its predecessor. It measures 4.3 x 2.4 x 0.4 inches which makes it slimmer and lighter than the 9300.

RIM has fitted this model with a 2.5-inch display that has a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels and the phone features the company’s Liquid Graphics technology that manages to increase the responsiveness and vibrancy of the screen. The graphics appear vibrant, colorful and quite sharp, but the font size could have been bigger. It isn’t a touch screen but this isn’t a major drawback since you can use the optical touch pad.

BlackBerry Curve 9360 (Source: worldwide.blackberry.com)

Just like the previous Curve, the 9360 has a flat navigation array which consists of the following buttons: Send, Menu, Back and End/Power, while the touchpad sits in the middle. These keys are not touch sensitive and you’ll have to apply some pressure while you push them. Below you’ll notice the traditional Curve keyboard which for this model is a bit bigger and rounder, but if you compare it to the Bold’s keyboard, it seems quite small. The good news is that the keys are separated and raised so you should be OK while typing messages.

On the left spine of the BlackBerry Curve 9360 sits the microUSB port, while on the right spine you will notice the slim volume rocker along with another slim shortcut key that can be customized. On top of the phone RIM has fitted the screen lock key and the 3.5mm headset jack, while on the back there’s a camera and an LED flash.

BlackBerry Curve 9360 (Source: thinkdigit.com)

Since the device is running on Blackberry 7 OS, you should know that the Curve 9360 offers support for NFC (near-field communication) which means that you have the possibility to buy products or services by simply swiping the handset over a compatible payment system. In addition, you can transfer files by touching two phones, using the BlackBerry Tag application.

The five megapixel camera is a considerable upgrade compared to the 2 mpx unit that the 9300 has, and it manages to take pretty good photos that are colorful and sharp. Unfortunately the camcorder is not able to do 720p HD video recording, but usually people who buy this phone don’t care much about this.

As for the battery, it’s rated to last for up to 12 days in standby or up to 5 hours of talk time. The digital SAR rating is 1.47 W/kg, according to the FCC.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/119296-palm-treo-680-2.jpg

Today we take a trip down memory lane and talk about the Palm Treo 680 which came out back in 2006, the year when the smartphone market started to have more and more members, like the BlackBerry Pearl, the Samsung BlackJack and the T-Mobile Dash. This is a more affordable and consumer-friendly device released by Palm for Cingular Wireless marketed as a smartphone aimed for the mass audience.

The Palm Treo 680 measures 4.4 x 2.3 x 0.8 inches and it tips the scales at 5.5 ounces, and it feels very comfortable when you hold it in your hand thanks to its tapered and curved edges. This model has been fitted with a 2.5-inch touchscreen display that has a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels and can show up to 64,000 colors. It remains perfectly readable when exposed to direct sunlight and the touchscreen is extremely easy to use.

Palm Treo 680 (Source: palminfocenter.com)

Below the screen you will find the talk regular and end keys, a 4-way directional keypad that has a select button in the center, and a bunch of shortcuts to calendar, messages, phone app, and for the home page. As far as the QWERTY keyboard is concerned, this one is pretty much the same as the one you’ll find in the Treo 700p, with the exception that the buttons are now more rectangular and they haven’t been raised above the surface. The spacing is not very good, but you will like that the keys are well backlit and tactile.

On top of the Palm Treo 680 you will find the silent ringer switch, while on the right spine sits the SD card slot which has a protective cover. Looking on the left side we find the volume keys along with a customizable button that by default is programmed to fire up the voice recorder. At the back you’ll notice the camera lens, speaker and the stylus. On the bottom edge of this smartphone sit the multi-connector port and the 2.5mm headset jack.

Palm Treo 680 (Source: newworldtelnet.com)

The smartphone comes bundled with Documents To Go 8.0 which lets you open, create and edit Word & Excel documents, read PDFs and view PowerPoint presentations. Also on board are a to-do list, a calendar, memo pad, world clock, calculator, and a voice recorder. For e-mail you get VersaMail 3.5, GoodLink and Cingular Xpress Mail. We should mention that the device is running on Palm OS 5.4.9 and comes with 64MB of SDRAM, along with 64MB of user available memory. The expansion slot is able to take cards up to a capacity of 2GB.

The battery of this device is rated to last for up to 4 hours of talk time or up to 12.5 days in standby mode.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/119123-htc-status-2.jpg

Introduced earlier this year at the MWC 2011 in the form of the ChaCha, the HTC Status is a phone designed for those of you who use Facebook a lot, as it comes with a dedicated button which makes it considerably easier to post status updates, upload photos, share links, and more. It has a compact slate design that reminds us of other messaging handsets and it measures 4.5 x 2.5 x 0.42 inches. It is clad in an attractive matte-white plastic unibody shell and it’s adorned with silver accents that imitate brushed metal.

The highlight of the phone is without any doubt the QWERTY keyboard which is extremely spacious and wide, featuring large, oval and raised keys that manage to provide a nice clicking sensation. Even though it lacks a dedicated number row, the good news is that the number keypad has been highlighted in blue.

HTC Status (Source: blogcdn.com)

In order to make room for this spacious keyboard, HTC had to make a compromise with the size of the screen which measures only 2.6 inches. It is a HVGA-resolution touchscreen display that is simply too small because you will feel that your fingers are occupying too much real estate while navigating around. In addition, the text is not very easy to read and you need to be extra careful when tapping smaller buttons. On the flip side, the screen itself is quite good, being very responsive, colorful and sharp.

Above the display you’ll notice a small LED indicator along with a VGA front-facing camera. Below the screen are the usual Android touch sensitive buttons for home, menu, back and search. On the left spine sits the volume rocker, while on top HTC has installed the 3.5mm headset jack and the power/lock key.

HTC Status (Source: att.com)

The HTC Status is running on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) which means that it offers one-touch text selection, the possibility to access the front-facing camera from the camera application, and other features as well. As for features, it offers Bluetooth with A2DP stereo support, Wi-Fi and GPS. We should mention that you have the possibility to use the smartphone as a mobile hot-spot for up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices.

Being an Android smartphone, you get the usual Google services like Google Maps, Gmail, Google Voice Search, Google Talk, YouTube, Places, Latitude and others as well. Also on board are HTC Likes, HTC Hub, AT&T Shop Music, Yellow Pages, Weather, AT&T Code Scanner, AT&T Navigator and AT&T Family Map.

The HTC Status has a 1,250 mAh lithium-ion battery that is rated to last for up to 16.6 days in standby mode or up to 6.5 hours of talk time. Its digital SAR rating, according to FCC’s radiation tests, is of 1.04 W/kg.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/118941-t-mobile-mytouch-4g-slide-2.jpg

Released by HTC earlier this year for the T-Mobile network, the MyTouch 4G Slide looks a lot like the MyTouch 3G Slide, featuring a smooth plastic body, four physical buttons, a touch pad and a slightly protruding chin at its base. Compared to its predecessor, the new model is a little bit taller and thinner, measuring 4.8 x 2.4 x 0.5 inches and with a weight of 6.5 ounces.

The extra size accommodates a 3.7-inch WVGA Super LCD screen which has a resolution of 800 x 400 pixels. Above it rests the front-facing VGA camera along with an LED indicator light that will flash green when you have received a new message. Below the display are the Android buttons: home, menu, back, along with the Genius button that fires up voice-to-text voice functions and commands.

T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide (Source: mynewmachine.com)

On the right side of the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide is the camera shutter, while on the left spine holds the volume rocker and the microUSB charging port. Up top sit the power button and the 3.5 mm jack. On the back is an 8 mpx camera that has a dual LED flash and can do 1080p HD video recording. Once you remove the battery cover you will have access to the microSD card slot that can accommodate a card up to a capacity of 32GB.

One of the best features of this smartphone would have to be the slide-out QWERTY keyboard that has a full-size configuration. The keys however are flat and not as comfortable as you might have hoped, but there is enough spacing between them and their size is quite generous. The device is running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and on top of that is HTC’s Sense 3 interface. You get to choose from one of the six available themes which give you plenty of variation.

T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide (Source: mobile2u.com.pk)

Let’s talk about features and mention that the phone has 4G speeds, Wi-Fi calling, Bluetooth, GPS and support for mobile hot-spot. In addition, it can do both text & multimedia messaging, e-mail, and comes with the usual Google services. You’ll also find other apps like Netflix, Qik, T-Mobile TV, Polaris Office, DoubleTwist Sync, Zinio Reader, Zid Zone and Bejeweled 2.

The smartphone is powered by a dual core 1.20GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor which is a lot more powerful than the 600Mhz processor found in the MyTouch 3G Slide. As for the battery, the 1,520 mAh lithium-ion unit performs just about the same as other models in this segment. The phone’s digital SAR rating is 0.68 W/kg. As a phone, the call quality is very good on both ends of the line, with enough volume level and a clear line, with no crackles and breaks at all.

The LG Thrive is nothing more than the prepaid handset version of the LG Phoenix, an entry-level Android device that looks a lot like its other affordable siblings in the company’s budget lineup of smartphones. It is in fact the very first smartphone available for AT&T’s GoPhone prepaid service. The phone measures 4.46 x 2.32 x 0.52 inches and has a silver pattern along its sides and curved corners. It features a smooth matte finish that provides a comfortable grip, while the 3.2-inch display has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and can show up to 262k colors.

The LG Thrive is running on Android 2.2 Froyo (upgradable to 2.3 Gingerbread) and comes with a custom LG virtual keyboard, along with the standard Android keyboard. Even though it does not feature the increasingly popular Swype, you can download it yourself. Even though this is an entry-level smartphone, it doesn’t mean that we are dealing with a slow device because it is fully capable of providing a smooth experience most of the times with no noticeable amount of lag.

LG Thrive (Source: img.gadgetian.com)

Regarding applications, it comes with all the regular Android apps and widgets that you would expect, including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Latitude, Google Places, Google search with Voice, Google Talk and YouTube. The phone is compatible with Microsoft Exchange and it is capable of sending & receiving e-mails from POP or IMAP accounts. Besides the inclusion of a full HTML web browser, the LG Thrive comes with apps for Twitter and Facebook, and you have the possibility to add widgets of both applications to the phone’s home screen which will show you the latest updates.

Some of the other applications that come with the LG Thrive include a video player that has support for various formats like MP4, WMV and 3GP, along with a music player for MP3, WMA, AAC and AAC+ audio formats. It also has DivX video playback support and you can transfer media through USB mass storage.

LG Thrive (Source: lg.cellcasesandmore.com)

It has been equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera that can take pretty good photos, but the colors could have been a little bit more vibrant. It has 160MB of internal memory and if this isn’t enough you can expand it with a 32GB microSD card.

The smartphone is powered by a single core 600 MHz processor that provides a zippy overall navigation experience which for an entry-level device like this one is quite impressive. As for the battery, it has a rated talk time of up to seven and a half hours, while in standby it should last for up to 20 days. The digital SAR rating of the LG Thrive, according to FCC’s radiation tests, is of 1.23 W/kg.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/118388-lg-revolution-vs910-2.png

Announced at CES 2011, the LG Revolution VS910 is the third 4G LTE-enabled smartphone released for Verizon. The device is quite large as it measures 5.1 x 2.6 x 0.5 inches, and it is clad in a soft matte material on the back, featuring smooth gun-metal sides. This impressive size leaves us with a feeling of solidness and luxury when holding the device.

It comes with a gorgeous 4.3-inch LCD display that has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Even though the colors are not as deep as in a Super AMOLED display, the one fitted to the Revolution is still very capable while viewing videos. The capacitive touch screen manages to be very responsive and intuitive, and you won’t notice any lag when browsing through the seven home screens.

LG Revolution VS910 (Source: lg.com)

Below the display there are four touch sensitive buttons for the menu, home, back and search actions, while above the display resides an LED indicator (upper left) and a 1.3 mpx front facing camera (upper right). On the left side of the LG Revolution is the micro USB port, while on the right spine reside the HDMI port and the volume rocker. Sitting on top of the smartphone are the screen lock/power key and the 3.5 mm jack.

The hottest feature of this phone would have to be the fact that it offers support for Verizon’s 4G-LTE network which brings average download speeds of up to 12Mbps while the upload speeds can get up to 5Mbps. Some of the apps that come bundled with the phone include: Netflix, Polaris Office, Rhapsody, Bitbop, Blockbuster, Amazon Kindle, TuneWiki, Slacker and Let’s Golf 2. You will also find My Verzion Mobile, Backup Assistant, V Cast media manager, VZ Navigator, City ID and the Verizon’s application store.

Running on Android 2.2, the LG Revolution comes with Google services like YouTube, Gmail, Google Talk, Google Music and the recently introduced cloud music service. The smartphone offers playback support for 720p videos and can also play various video formats like 3GP, MP4, WMV and 3G2.

LG Revolution VS910 (Source: userhelpbook.com)

It has a five-megapixel camera located at the back which manages to take decent photos, but you will notice that the colors are a little bit washed out. The camcorder is able to take clips in 720p and you will store the images and videos on the pre-installed 16GB microSD card. Some of the other features of the device that are worth mentioning include voice commands, speed dial, speakerphone, conference calling as well as text & multimedia messaging. There’s also Wi-Fi on board, along with GPS and Bluetooth connectivity.

The 1,500 mAh battery should survive for up to 7.25 hours of talk time or up to 14 days in standby.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/118223-blackberry-8100-2.jpg

Today we take a look back in the past and review the BlackBerry 8100 (aka Pearl) that came out in 2006. When it was launched it was probably the most attractive handset produced by RIM, with a super sleek form factor and a polished look. The smartphone measures 4.2 x 2 x 0.5 inches and weighs 3.1 ounces. It looks a little bit like the Motorola Slvr L7 but with a slimmer profile.

BlackBerry 8100 Pearl (Source: mobilearea.mobi)

It has been fitted with a 2.25-inch TFT display that can show up to 65k colors and has a 240 x 260-pixel resolution. Even though it is not a touch screen, it still manages to provide a clear and sharp display that offers vibrant colors. It also comes with an ambient light sensor that can automatically adjust the keyboard and the screen depending on the environment. The user can modify the theme, backlight time, font style, size and family. Above the screen there’s also a small LED that illuminates green when Wi-Fi is on; blue when Bluetooth is turned on and red when there are incoming unread messages. This light will also turn amber when the phone is running low on battery. On top of the phone RIM has installed a mute button.

The reason why this phone is called Pearl is due to its pear-like trackball that looks somewhat similar to that of the T-Mobile Sidekick 3. On the right spine reside the volume up/down buttons as well as a customizable convenience key. Looking on the left side of the Blackberry 8100 Pearl we find the mini USB port, a 2.5 mm jack and an additional user-defined shortcut. The phone comes with RIM’s SureType keyboard which unfortunately is rather slow mainly because you have to type the letters, then scroll to the correct word and then select it.

BlackBerry 8100 Pearl (Source: cameraphonesplaza.com)

One of the many novelties concerning this phone is the introduction of a camera, a premiere for a RIM handset. It has a 1.3 mpx camera that comes with a flash and a 5x digital zoom. The bad news is that it can’t record videos like most of the other cameraphones that came out that year. With the camera you can take photos up to a maximum resolution of 1,280 x 1,024 pixels, and you can choose from one of the three quality settings.

The device comes bundled with an attachment viewer that has support for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, Corel WordPerfect, GIF, JPEG, and other formats as well. Other apps include a web browser, calendar, memo pad, task list, password keeper, alarm and a calculator.

Its battery is rated to last for 3.5 hour of talk time or up to 15 days when in standby mode.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/118055-acer-liquid-2.jpg

Acer is not one of the top names in the smartphone industry mostly because they don’t have as many handsets as the competition. One of their Android-running devices is the Liquid which features an attractive glossy white chassis that contrasts the black screen. We are dealing with a compact device that measures 4.52 x 2.51 x 0.5 inches and it tips the scales at 4.76 ounces. It manages to be quite light without feeling fragile.

Acer Liquid (Source: cdn.slashphone.com)

The front of the device is dominated by the 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen display that has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Even though the colors do not pop off the screen as they do on more recent handsets, these still are quite bright and you won’t have any problems understanding what’s on the screen when under direct sunlight.

The touchscreen manages to be responsive enough but keep in mind that you will have to apply more pressure in order to navigate between the home screens and browse through the lists. The bad news is that there aren’t any multitouch capabilities, not even double tap to zoom.

The UI is pretty much standard Android as you get three home screens that you can customize by adding widgets and shortcuts, plus there is a pull-out apps tray at the bottom of each screen. The shortcut button located below the display will return you to the homescreen regardless of the place on the phone, plus it also has touch sensitive buttons for search, menu and back. On top of the Acer Liquid sits the 3.5 mm headphone jack, while on the right side is the camera shutter and the volume rocker. On the left spine are the power/lock button and a miniUSB port.

The device is running as standard on Android 1.6 so it packs the usual Google services like Google Talk, Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps and the official Android Market. Acer also throws in urFooz which allows you to create your own avatar that you can share on MySpace, Facebook as well as other networking websites. It also comes with more useful apps like NemoPlayer, Media Server and Spinlets.

Acer Liquid (Source: new-technology-online.com)

The five megapixel camera of the Acer Liquid doesn’t have a flash and the application seems to be a little bit sluggish. Taking a picture also takes time which means that the photos as not as sharp as they should be. You have the possibility to geotag the photos and also record VGA videos at 20 fps.

It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 768 MHz and packs 256MB of RAM. It has a 1,350 mAh lithium-ion battery that should last for 5 hours of talk time or up to 16 days in standby.

<img src=http://www.digitalnerds.net/wp-content/plugins/jobber-import-articles/photos/117868-nokia-e90-communicator-2.jpg

When it came out in 2008 it was one of the biggest phones in the world and it probably still is today since most manufacturers nowadays are launching slim and compact devices. It measures an almost incredible 5.2 x 2.2 x 0.7 inches and it tips the scales at 7.4 ounces. The good thing about its mammoth size is that the build quality is excellent and it also adopts a corporate appearance which is designed for power business users.

On the outside it has a 2.0-inch display that can show up to 16 million colors and has a 320 x 240-pixel resolution. Below it you’ll find the regular navigation array that consists of two keys, shortcut to main menu, talk & end buttons, 4-way toggle with a center select key, along with the alphanumeric dialpad.

Nokia E90 Communicator (Source: blogcdn.com)

Opening the Nokia E90 Communicator unveils the full QWERTY keyboard and the 3.6-inch internal display. The latter has a resolution of 800 x 352 pixels and can display 16M colors. The individual buttons of the keyboard are quite roomy so it isn’t a real problem that there isn’t much space between them. You will have access to functions like messaging, contacts, web and calendar. On the right side of the device you will find the camera shutter and the voice-recorder button, while on the phone’s bottom sit the mini USB port, 2.5 mm headset jack and a power connector. At the back is the 3.2 mpx camera that has a flash and a microSD expansion slot.

The smartphone is running on the Symbian OS 9.2 Series 60 3rd Edition and comes with support for viewing and editing Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents via the QuickOffice suite. It also comes with Adobe Reader, calendar, zip manager, calculator, notes, clock, currency converter and a voice recorder. Regarding the e-mail capabilities, it has support for POP3, IMAP, SMTP and Microsoft Exchange Server.

Nokia E90 Communicator (Source: cerecomand.ro)

Powered by a Texas Instrument OMAP2420 processor clocked at 330 MHz, the phone manages to be quite smooth as far as the user experience is concerned, but you will notice some lag when launching the camera or other multimedia apps.

The aforementioned 3.2 mpx autofocus camera has video recording capabilities. In camera mode, you get to choose from a bunch of settings like scenes, image quality, contrast, ISO, color tones and others as well. When in video mode you can choose from two scene modes as well as five choices for video quality.

The battery of the Nokia E90 Communicator is rated to last for up to 5.8 hours of talk time or up to 14 days in standby mode. The FCC radiation tests say that the digital SAR rating of the device is 0.59 W/kg.

T-Mobile has gained a new BlackBerry model this summer and it is the first Torch model that RIM has launched for the second largest GSM carrier in the United States. Basically this is the same phone as the Torch 9810 released for AT&T earlier this year. It measures 4.4 x 2.4 x 0.6 inches and looks very much the same as the 9800, featuring an identical portrait slider design and the same dimensions.

It comes with a 3.2-inch display that has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, while the OS 7 promises to bring a new Liquid Graphics technology that the manufacturer mentioned that it allows for a more responsive touchscreen and improved graphics. You won’t notice any type of lag while navigating the handset or launching programs, mostly because the handset has been fitted with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.20 GHz.

Below the display you will notice the send, menu, back and end/power buttons while in the middle is the company’s familiar optical touchpad. For those of you who want to type something really fast, you could use the onscreen keyboard which can be used in both portrait and landscape mode. It manages to be very spacious and there’s enough room between the keys but the text input area is seriously affected by the display’s small size. OS 7 brings improved text prediction which will allow you to type even faster than before.

If you still want to use the QWERTY keyboard, the one fitted to the BlackBerry Torch 9810 is a little wider than the one found in the 9800, and also it is not as thin as it used to be. It manages to be quite comfortable but those of you who have large thumbs will need some time to accommodate with the keyboard.

On top of the phone you’ll find the mute and lock buttons, while on the left side RIM has installed the microUSB port. On the right spine is the volume rocker, 3.5 mm headset jack and the customizable convenience key.

OS 7 brings a very useful voice function to universal search, an updated BlackBerry browser that offers support for HTML5 along with support for augmented reality apps and 720p HD video recording capabilities. Other features of the device include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, smart dialing, voice-activated dialing speed dial, conference calling, text & multimedia messaging and visual voice mail.

The battery of the BlackBerry Torch 9810 has a rated talk time of six and a half hours in 2G mode or 5.9 hours in 3G. It should last in standby for 12.8 days while in 2G or 12.3 days in 3G mode. Its digital SAR rating is of 1.44 W/kg.
