Perhaps many users out there were in the position of asking themselves when needing a new device what should they opt for; an iPad or a laptop?

The main thing that you should answer yourself in order to make your life easier before choosing what device to buy is “what do I really need or what will I use the device for?”. The answer to this complicated double question is not that simple but is most surely the best way to understand the parameters and issues that are included in deciding what device to buy and use. For future reference, I must state my choice: a laptop. There are many reasons for this option but they are all personal and I had understood throughout the years what suits my needs better and the only device that I could think of was the laptop.

Using a tablet generally means that you give up freely the discrete real keyboard and so typing is really hard especially when you have special characters in the text you write and these, on a virtual tablet keyboard, can be obtained by key combinations or from a second version of the keyboard with characters instead of the standard symbols activated by a yet another virtual key. This was the main thing that made me give up the idea of using a tablet for my daily tasks as I need to write a lot and such a virtual keyboard would only increase the time I need to complete my tasks at hand.

There is a tablet option that seemed interesting at some time but the Asus EEE Transformer once connected to the special dock that the manufacturer provides is a laptop indeed just that it’s a low end spec laptop that will not handle successfully the software I run even if the main problem, the discrete keyboard, is now available with this solution. However, I remain dedicated to the standard laptop idea and stick to my old device.

The iPad costs around $ 600 – 900 and that is a price that will get anyone a rather powerful laptop or notebook that will not have the same attractive features like the iPad such as touchscreen and automatic rotating display but these are things that shouldn’t be the real reasons why you should buy a laptop or a tablet because the reasons behind this purchase are or at least should be far more deep and serious.
