Panasonic launched the new LUMIX DMC – FZ 150 camera in August 2011 as the top of the model FZ range of super optical zoom compact cameras. The LUMIX DMC – FZ 150 is able to record Full HD videos at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 60p (NTSC) / 50p (PAL).
The LEICA DC VARIO – ELMARIT 25 mm ultra wide angle objective with 24 x optical zoom is based on the new Nano Surface Coating technology that minimizes light reflections thus reducing the effects of ghosting and flaring. The powerful 24 x optical zoom ( in 35mm the equivalent being 25 – 600 mm) can extend up to 32 x with the Intelligent Zoom function and Intelligent Resolution, preserving image quality even when using digital zoom.
The 12.1 megapixel MOS sensor uses the Venus Engine image processor offers the new model very good performance both in shooting pictures as well as recording videos, so a massive increase both in speed and sensitivity. Thus, the two components make Full HD video recording possible at a resolution of 1920 × 1080 60p ( NTSC ) / 50p ( PAL ) in AVCHD format but also a continuous high speed recording at a rate of 12 frames per second with maximum resolution. The objective, the sensor and the image processor play important roles in improving the quality of the captured images and videos, especially of those taken in low light. The Light Speed AF auto – focus technology allows the camera to auto – focus in 0.1 seconds, making it impossible to miss any photo, no matter how fast the action would take place in front of the camera.
Users who want to use their creativity to a greater extent rather than technology will be pleased to know that the LUMIX DMC – FZ 150 can also be controlled fully manual, both in photo shooting and video capturing mode. I appreciate the fact that Panasonic, with the 12 mega pixels sensor does not participate in the ” mega – pixel war ” as other camera manufacturers do. At least at first glance, this thing works for the benefit of the users, and shows real concerns for image quality, more than for wining a battle of ” marketing “; this simple thing may as well be the exact reason why Panasonic will win segments of the market it didn’t hoped for until now as quality is needed more than many mega pixels. I am looking forward into buying the device soon.
